*Ahem* I think I just fell in love, and this is the only part of the site I’ve read, so far.

…wanna play, wanna play, wanna play…

“So, can I borrow your notes from class?” “Sure, lemme just unroll ‘em here for you…” The Future Of Monitor/Screen Technology.

It is my opinion that anyone that obsessively cleans their house in preparation for the visit of a not-quite-ex because said NQE “expects that from [the person]” has something of an unhealthy relationship with the NQE.

Hello? It’s your house. Ex doesn’t live there, and, hi! Isn’t -going- to be living there. It’s deeply doubtful that Ex is even going to be visiting, what with the hotel room and all. Yeah, maybe the house did need some straightening up, but not like that, not all in one swell foop like that.

Some times, particularly when the stress of cleaning on a deadline is adding to the already considerable stress generated by work deadlines and impending ex-visits, it’s better to just cross the cleaning off the list and revel in the freedom that brings.

…Which leads to this:

Some times, people are just messy. They know this, they’re comfortable with it, and they have lived with it for years. Making them hold to what seems to them a near-unattainable gold standard of cleanliness can cause feelings of great stress. I’m not saying that people should have no standards whatsoever, I’m just saying that people should be a bit more flexible.

So these are less rants than mild whining. *Shrug* At least they’re off my chest, now, and I can go do something else.

Speaking of defence, one of the new enemies in the Hordes Of The Underdark expansion pack is the gelatinous cube. Yes, as in Zontar, The Gelatinous Cube from Wayne’s World. (That page is worth looking at for the last entry alone. *Giggle* I’m not even a PoliSci major and I think it’s terribly amusing. But then, I am weird, so…)

My aunt’s cats love me, when she’s not around — they adore walking on me, anything I may have in my hands or lap at the time, falling asleep on my ankles when I really really have to go to the bathroom…

Not that they hate me when she’s about, mind you. They just transfer their love to her. *Snerk* Granted, she’s a lot more inclined to give them a gentle shove when they’re making her feet fall asleep or whatever, and they’re much more forgiving of her when she does.

…..not really all that much going on around here, which is just fine with me. Calm and quiet are two big goals in my life at the moment.

However, I’ll probably be writing a rant about cleaning up for all the wrong reasons and/or/also probably changing the layout again. I love this one, but the colors aren’t exactly my favorites and the tag-board thingy spawns a pop-up/under, which is Way Not Cool in my book. Particularly since I -got- my own domain so there would _be_ no pop-ups/unders. Right now, though, I need to toddle off to the store.

Finally.

What sort of excitement have you missed? Well…

– Saw a new Paul Petzoldt*-brand headlamp for climbers and cave-dwellers today — it’s called the ‘Tikka’! I giggled aloud and very nearly bought one before remembering that I didn’t actually _need_ it.

– Got a bunch of new manga, including the very funny (and only occasionally gory) Pet Shop Of Horrors. I firmly believe that the potential for Count D/Detective Orcot slash has no doubt generated a number of very poorly written stories… But I still want to look for it. Also, Eerie Queerie 2 is out at long last! Heavier on the shounen-ai this time around, but nothing has been resolved, so.

– Picked up a copy of Morrowind III: The Elder Scrolls because I couldn’t find a copy of Hordes Of The Underdark. Tried to install it and got a “cyclical data error”… The disc was clean, my machine is pretty much top of the line… I have no idea what the problem was. So, I took it back, found a copy of HotU, fluttered my lashes and paid the extra five bucks to take it home.

– I got my ears pierced. I, sadly, didn’t go to the Piercing Pagoda but rather to the decidedly mundane Claire’s. I did get some cool earrings out of the deal, though, plus a coupon for 20% off my next purchase, a sticker, and two lollipops.

– Finally got my grubby little paws on the last volume of Yami No Matsuei and the first volume of Licensed By Royalty, so, yay!

– Also treated myself to The Darkness, Maroon5, and Lacuna Coil; plus a new pair of headphones.

– Bad Spike (the cat, not the vampire) very nearly gave everyone a heart attack by walking around on the railing of the patio, which is rather high up — like forty feet high-up. Fortunately, he’s not done it again.

– I bought myself a whole boatload of clothes made out of performance fabric, most notably Moisture Transfer System clothes. REI is having a big sale, plus there’s always great finds on the clearance racks. If you’re a member, you can pick up a coupon at the store good for 20% off one item not already on sale, as long as it doesn’t end in a three (3) or a nine (9). It is to be hoped that I will not freeze to death the next time my aunt and I go hiking.

– Went biking. A LOT. Guh… I only managed to forget two things on my REI list, one of them being a new bike seat. I need one that’s a little softer and a little kinder to sit on… Also, I’d just like to say that biking in the dark and rain can actually be a lot of fun, provided you don’t have to go under any bridges… I thought I was going to run into a bridge abutment.

– Accurately predicted that my aunt would not be able to resist cleaning the kitchen once she cleaned the scrambled eggs out of the cats’ water dish (long story short: the cats love scrambled eggs; I am a klutz)…

– …and that’s really about it. I still haven’t talked to an advisor about my remedial math class(es), yet, but I hope to resolve that tomorrow. Good thing I bought stuff to read.

* A mountain- and pion-eer in the climbing world. My grandparents know/knew him, which I think is very cool.

The placement tests went as expected: I kicked English’s ass and then Math, angry on behalf of its good friend E, kicked mine. My math percentile score? Seventeen. If they don’t laugh me out of the building, I should have some kind of remedial math class to sign up for this afternoon.

APlus.net, for some reason, thinks that I requested my dial-up account be closed and my unused time refunded. Needless to say, that _was NOT_ the case. They’ve been working on fixing whatever the problem is (no one seems to know) since Friday night, and if it’s not done by nine tonight, I may just tell them not to bother.

The weirdset part, though, is the fact that their web-hosting is nearly flawless. If I ever have even the slightest hiccup and call, they’re either working on it or they get me the answer I need right away, and everything’s peachy. Their dial-up access, however… Not so much. *Shrug* Oh, well.

If you ever wonder how people die from hypothermia without noticing that they’re cold, I’ll tell you: sometimes, it’s really hard to tell.

My aunt and I have been working on getting out and going hiking or biking (or both!) on the weekends, and yesterday we decided to hike up a local butte. When we hit the summit, I started feeling really funky — dizzyish, nauseous, weak and shaky. We headed back down the trail, and she made me change into a dry shirt (though I wasn’t about to argue — the shirt I had on was so wet I could have wrung it out, yuck) and put on a fuzzy fleece jacket. She also had me eat part of a granola bar and have as much water as I could stand, in order to help boost my most-likely-crashed blood-sugar. Once I’d done that and sat around for a bit, we finished our descent… It was scary, and a perfect example of why hypothermia is called ‘the silent killer’. I wasn’t in dire straits by a long shot, but it -did- let me see A) what the symptoms were like for me and B) precisely _why_ you’re not supposed to wear cotton while hiking.

After I’m done with my other errands for today, I’m going to REI and getting some lovely synthetic clothing for my next hike. (Weirdly enough, biking seems to have less of an impact on me water- and heat-wise than hiking does. Of course, it probably helps that I try not to bike up really steep hills and that I can’t take Tanjoubi off-road…)

With apologies to Handel, here you are:

Silly, yes. Interesting, too, however.

And I’m going to bed, I think. I may play some Neverwinter Nights.

I’ve got a math/English placement test tomorrow, and afterward (as a treat/because I need to return a couple of things), I’m off to Kinokuniya.

…I suppose the suits at corporate wouldn’t necessarily understand/appreciate getting a love poem, huh?

I figured out why my archives looked all wonky on my Test Blog site — because the archive list tag only lists the months that have posts. Duh.

So much for me.

In other news, why does it sound like someone is using a weed-eater outside at this time of night? I mean, yes, it -is- better than the drunken whingeing that was going on (and on and on and on…) last night, but still…
