I have been running around like a…thing that runs around a lot. Oi. I’ve gotten a lot done, though — place to live, furnishings, school is paid for, had dinner with my aunt and my grandparents, saw my aunt’s silly kitties (I miss mine! *Sniffle*), got a TV, played a little Katamari Damacy…
Whoo. There will be pictures, eventually, of my little place. I’m not sure where I’ll put ‘em up (either here or on Flickr), but I’ll link to ‘em when they’re available. (Mom brought the camera, but she left the USB cable at home. Otherwise, they’d be up today.)
As for furnishings… I have a TV, TV stand/cart thing, couch-that-turns-into-a-bed, a table, four chairs, two neat corner shelf things, a bunch of rugs (like, 6 or 7), a little table for my entry way, and a lamp. I still need a couple more lamps, since the place is not very well-lit, at least by electric light. (Natural light fills it up nicely, which I love.) The bathroom is huuuuuge, bigger even than the kitchen and more than large enough for one person. The kitchen, though tiny, has a nice amount of storage and full-sized appliances — dishwasher, fridge, stove and microwave. There’s a stacked washer and dryer, too, which was one of two points I wouldn’t compromise on: my building had to have W/D in-unit, and they had to allow pets. (My building allows 3 per apt., I thought it was only 2. I don’t care, though, cause it means I can have a kitty or kitties! Yay!)
I have most of my housewares; towels and dishes and the like. I do have a few things left to get, such as fire extinguishers, groceries, a mattress, a VCR, lamps, a phone, cable and ‘net service… I got local phone service set up today, though it won’t be functional until next week because that’s the soonest a technician could come hook it up. Gah, just tell me what to plug in where in the telco closet and I’ll take care of it!
I am looking forward to having my ‘net and cable hooked up. Woohoo, International Channel! Hooray, cable modem speeds!
Also, I’m looking into getting a scooter. I don’t know what kind, yet, though I like the look of the Yamaha Vino Classic, as well as the Honda Metropolitan II (in Denim, Kiwi or Salsa). I’d like a scooter so I have another way to get up and down the hills around here, as well as to get back and forth to class… Also, scooters are easier to park, cost less to fuel, license and maintain, as well as to buy in the first place than a car. I can get a brand-new scooter and own it, free and clear, for a third of the price of a cheaper used car and for a fraction of the price of a new car. Plus, used cars may not be covered by a warranty and a new scooter is. I’m not planning on riding it to Lynnwood or to Portland, though some models will easily reach highway speeds… And, yeah, they’re cute. But they’re functional, too. And I promise I will buy and wear all of the proper safety equipment, even if I’m only going five minutes away.
So anyhow, that’s what’s been happening in _my_ life. It feels like I’ve hardly done anything, though… I know that’s not true. And classes start next week, eee!
Abandoned and collapsing Irish prison.
Quick update:
– In Seattle!
– Alive!
– Will have a home of my own in about *checks* twelve hours, if everything goes well
– …eek.
More later. For now, there will be icon-y goodness of the birthday type.
Okay, going incommunicado for a while — like, up to a couple of days, possibly. Be good to yourselves and one another, remember that I love you (yes, even you), and I’ll explain in the next post.

- books:
…Books. They give so much and ask so little, as the bumpersticker goes. On my shelves, you will find a book on black holes standing cheek-by-jowl with a hymnal; All Tomorrow’s Parties wedged between a book on hummingbirds and a copy of The Dark Secret Of Weatherend; and book 12 of the Time-Life Home Repair series lying overtop of a random assortment of trade paperbacks. I *heart* books. - cyberpunk:
This one is all William Gibson’s fault. Also the fault of whoever first pointed me in the direction of the idea of melding humans and computers. - faeries:
I like the idea of teeny-tiny creatures with wings and magic powers. Or larger creatures with magic powers. However you define it, it’s interesting. And I’ve been on the bandwagon long before I’d ever heard of Froud, Brown, or any of the other recent Faery artists sprang up like so many mushrooms. (Not that their artwork isn’t lovely, it’s just not why I have this as an interest.) - geekiness:
Because being able to open up a computer and tinker with it is haaaaandy. Because geeks know the most interesting assortment of things. Because! - hellsing:
You know, for someone that prefers light’n'fluffy’n'funny to dark and gory, I was surprised when I discovered that I liked this series. Alucard and Sir Hellsing have an interesting relationship; Seras Victoria grows and changes during the series; Walter kicks some serious ass (he and Norman are The Best Butlers Evar!); and the story is complex and mysterious without getting completely bogged down in “WTF!?”-ville. - libraries:
…they have lots and lots of books. On all kinds of stuff. w00t! - orlando bloom:
Eh heh. A concession to the squealing fangirl that lives deep inside of me… He’s _cute_. And I’m curious to see if he’ll have a career consisting entirely of movies wherein his character does not have the luxury of indoor plumbing. (It has been true so far…) - rpgs:
I like Role-Playing Games because they give me an opportunity to stretch my brain… At least as long as I don’t have to do too much math, because that ruins the fantasy. Heh. - sweets:
Mmm, cake and doughnuts and chocolates and peppermints and candy bars and mochi and hard candy and jelly beans and cookies and fudge and pie and ice cream and… yeah. I like sweet things. They taste good, and in some cases look absolutely incredible. - water:
I like water in all its myriad forms… Okay, _almost_ all of them; snow is not on the list. Running water, sea water, standing water, Falling Water (heh), I like them all. Ice can be interesting, too, whether it’s in my drink or under hockey skates or on a puddle.

Snagged from Reesa. Shamelessly, even.
I’d seen a note about the new Atty General of the ‘States and his anti-porn crusade, but I didn’t realize that he was actually, y’know, serious about spending MY TAX DOLLARS on it. Not child porn — which I think that all rational people can agree is a bad bad thing — but more-or-less plain old adult porn, made by and for, and purchased by, adults. Like you and me. (I did get a giggle out of the FBI agent comments, though.)
I was toying thinking about stopping by Toys In Babeland in Seattle sometime in the future, but I think it just moved up my priority list a few notches.
I imagine that Ivan probably looked something like this when he was about the same age. (Link goes to a little blurb on BoingBoing re: Noah’s Wish and some people in Slidell (!) that are working with them. The picture is worth the click alone, though. Sooooo cute!)
I was poking through my site stats, as I do around the end/beginning of the month, just for fun…
August isn’t terribly interesting:

The “birtny spears” listing comes from a combination of my swearing and the post about how you can tell a legal download site from an illegal download site.
September, though, is where things get fascinating:

Particularly 12, 13, 15, and 19, which are all (to me, anyhow) pretty esoteric search terms — they’re not things that someone is going to think of on their own (necessarily, I suppose they _might_) and then pop the terms into Google.
So, if you found my page/pages through any of those three strings, leave me a comment! What were you looking for? Did you find it?
Toulouse is too busy watching out for the annoying boycats to let me find out where she’s bleeding from. All I can tell is that it’s her right front foot, and that’s mostly because she just got blood all over my nice clean comforter cover. Gah.

A pictoral tour of the former Bakker theme park. Most of it has been either razed or renovated by now… Pretty interesting stuff.
