Two Halves is a lengthy Naruto fanfic featuring Naruto and Hinata, a bunch of _good_ orginal characters*, and no sequels despite the promise thereof. (I think real life interfered with DameWren’s writing. Boo.) It starts off pretty rough — the author’s beta wasn’t the greatest and then disappeared, but halfway through she found a new and spiffy beta — but it ends nicely.

* No Mary Sues or Gary Stus! Yaaaaay!

I’m home. have no idea when regular (or as regular as it ever gets) posting will resume, but soonishly.

And then I should be home. This has been a nice change of pace, but I miss my stuff.

Here’s some randomness from the depths of my notebooks — these are all notes about the people that Pers and Cordialis are kidnapped by.

Cut to spare the uninterested.

No posts for a while — I’m spending some time with my aunt, and for whatever reason her network refuses to assign me a valid network address. Why, I don’t know, since it’s not like the network is superdoublesecret secure…

After a review of everything I can currently find featuring Kesiir and Dythnaali, I’ve come to the conclusion that neither of them are very nice. In fact, they’re kind of jerks, really — Dythnaali moreso than Kesiir; Kes makes up for it by being more of a whiner. Yaaaaaay.

Weirdly enough, though, I don’t really mind. It makes them different from my other characters, particularly Kelvath and Avrath, who are awfully nice.

It was -going- to be pure smut, only then things swerved abruptly off-track. You’d think that I’d expect that kind of thing after all these years, but no…

Also, this bit has got me thinking about Khaarsa society again. I realized that I have no idea if they have separate concepts for ‘wife’ and ‘lover’; if they do, do they make the distinction based on whether two Khaarsa are living together with (or without) the benefit of having gone through the full mating ritual? Do they distinguish between a male lover and a female lover? (Are there many same-sex pairings in the Khaarsa people as a whole? How does society view/treat them? Kesiir’s father was more angry that Dythnaali would try to take on what he (Rain Bringer) saw as his family’s burden (care & feeding of Far Sight) than the fact that Dythnaali declared himself to be Kesiir’s mate — which brings me to thinking that, and bolstered by Kesiir’s statement in the bit below, there’s more to pairing off than just deciding that ‘hey, we’re a couple!’.

So, then, what does it take — or what are the stages of pairing off? Is/should there be elaborate courtship, a declaration, and the ritual? In what order? Are there public ceremonies as well? How advanced _is_ Khaarsa society at this time (meaning circa Kelvath/Avrath’s time, rather than today, or far-future/alt.reality.as-we-know-it for Carrot and co.)?

I have no idea right now. Maybe after I wake up, later.

Now, without further ethnological/anthropological blithering, here’s the main attraction: two twits* with wings!

Oh, yes: there isn’t actually any smut after the cut.

I was just perusing the archives and came across my post on The Mirrorside, which contains this admonishment:

— Anything -else- from the Star Wars universe, with the possible exception of Jawas… But we’ll see.

But I cannot for the life of me remember why I was going to allow Jawas. *Blinkblink*

From a completely random thing I wrote years ago:

[...] the biggest and bloodthirstiest Khaarsa I could imagine, eight or nine feet tall, dripping warpaint and scarred and carrying nasty-looking weapons.

So, the same guy that wrote the long-winded screed about how The Matrix Is Bad And Teaches Kids Bad Stuff So You Shouldn’t Watch Or Otherwise Support It? Yeah. He wrote an essay about Heinlein and how Heinlein was a complete whacko — but hey, he just ignores it and enjoys the man’s writing. Which leads me to wonder… If The Matrix is sooooo bad, shouldn’t Heinlein be verboten as well? I mean, the man was a racist and at least one of his characters (who didn’t deserve it) ends up dead! So, he should be just as bad!
